Owning a home comes with a lot of responsibility—but most homeowners are never actually taught how their home works.

Coming in 2027, the Bluejacket Builders Homeowner Academy will be a one-day, hands-on class designed to give homeowners the knowledge and confidence to handle basic home maintenance, make simple repairs, and know when it's time to call a professional.

No construction experience required. Just come ready to learn!

LEARN THE BASICS OF YOUR HOME

Homeowner Academy will combine classroom instruction with hands-on learning, giving you the opportunity to actually practice some of the skills every homeowner should understand.

We'll cover the basics of major systems throughout your home, including:

Electrical — Learn about switches, outlets, basic troubleshooting, electrical safety, and simple replacements.

Plumbing — Get familiar with drains, water lines, faucets, shutoffs, common plumbing problems, and basic repairs.

Heating & Cooling — Better understand furnaces, air conditioners, boilers, filters, routine maintenance, and what homeowners can do to help keep their systems operating properly.

We'll also cover other practical home maintenance topics and common repairs that can help you better understand and take care of your home.

The goal isn't to turn you into a contractor in one day.

It's to make you a more knowledgeable and confident homeowner.

PLANNING A BIGGER PROJECT?

Knowing how to maintain your home is important. Knowing how to hire someone to work on it is just as important.

As part of Homeowner Academy, we'll review our Homeowner Project Guidance and talk about what to look for when hiring contractors and getting bids for larger projects.

We'll discuss proposals, scopes of work, contractor red flags, permits, insurance, pricing, communication, and questions you should ask before signing a contract.

Our goal is to help you make informed decisions about your home—whether you're doing the work yourself or hiring someone else to do it.

TAKE HOME MORE THAN KNOWLEDGE

Everyone who completes Homeowner Academy will receive a Certificate of Completion along with a homeowner resource folder filled with useful information you can keep for future reference.

We'll also provide information for Bluejacket Recommended Contractors covering common homeowner needs such as plumbing, electrical, painting, landscaping, fencing, and other specialty services.

And when it's time for that bigger kitchen, basement, bathroom, addition, or whole-home remodeling project—of course, the Bluejacket Builders team would be happy to help with that too!
