CREW READY PROGRAM
Learn the Skills. Prove Yourself. Build a Career.
Interested in working in the skilled trades but not sure how to get started?
The Bluejacket Builders Crew Ready Program is designed to give students and young adults interested in carpentry and residential construction an opportunity to get their foot in the door, develop real-world skills, and prove they have what it takes to build a career in the trades.
You don't need to walk through the door knowing everything.
We're looking for people who are ready to show up, ready to work, and ready to learn.
That's what it means to be CREW READY.
WHAT IS CREW READY?
Crew Ready is a 3-week evaluation and development program created by Bluejacket Builders to introduce young people to careers in residential construction while giving them hands-on experience working alongside our team.
Instead of expecting someone new to the trades to already have years of experience, we focus on the qualities that create great tradespeople:
Reliability. Growth. Ownership.
Participants receive hands-on experience, coaching, clear expectations, and weekly feedback while demonstrating their ability to become a productive member of a professional construction crew.
At the end of the three-week program, successful participants may have the opportunity to continue their employment and build their career with Bluejacket Builders.
STEP 1: THE CREW READY SKILLS ASSESSMENT
Before entering the Crew Ready Program, applicants complete a basic hands-on carpentry skills assessment.
This isn't about being perfect.
The assessment helps us understand your current experience, ability to follow instructions, comfort with tools, safety awareness, and areas where you may need additional training.
The assessment may include:
Measuring and basic construction math
Wall and stud layout
Cutting accuracy
Miter saw use
Circular saw use
Impact driver and basic power tool operation
Using a framing square and identifying angles
Basic assembly
Blueprint and plan reading
Following written and verbal instructions
General jobsite safety and awareness
We're not looking for a master carpenter.
We're looking for someone with the basic foundation and attitude needed to safely continue learning.
THE 3-WEEK CREW READY PROGRAM
WEEK 1 — RELIABILITY
Can your crew count on you?
Before we focus on advanced carpentry skills, we focus on something every successful tradesperson needs: reliability.
During Week 1, we're looking for participants who:
Arrive on time
Come prepared to work
Maintain a positive attitude
Follow instructions
Stay engaged
Take jobsite safety seriously
Are ready to contribute to the crew
You can teach someone how to frame a wall.
It's much harder to teach someone to care about showing up and doing the job right.
Great careers start by becoming someone others can depend on.
WEEK 2 — GROWTH
You aren't expected to know everything. You are expected to learn.
Week 2 focuses on your ability to develop new skills and respond to coaching.
We're looking for participants who:
Ask questions
Learn new skills
Accept constructive feedback
Apply what they've been taught
Stay engaged
Show improvement
Take an active interest in learning the trade
Making mistakes while you're learning is part of the process.
What matters is whether you listen, learn, and improve.
We don't expect perfection. We expect progress.
WEEK 3 — OWNERSHIP
Can you take the next step from learning to contributing?
During Week 3, we begin looking for greater independence and responsibility.
Participants are evaluated on their ability to:
Take ownership of assigned tasks
Work independently when appropriate
Communicate professionally
Pay attention to details
Work effectively as part of a crew
Follow through on instructions
Demonstrate good judgment
Maintain the standards expected on a Bluejacket Builders jobsite
The goal isn't simply to teach you how to use tools.
It's to help you become someone a professional construction crew can depend on.
WEEKLY CHECK-INS & FEEDBACK
You shouldn't have to guess how you're doing.
At the end of each week, Crew Ready participants receive a progress check-in with their supervisor.
We'll talk about:
What's going well?
Where have you improved?
What skills need more work?
What should you focus on next week?
Crew Ready is an evaluation program, but it's also a development program.
Our goal is to provide clear expectations and useful feedback that helps participants understand what it takes to succeed in the trades.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER WEEK 3?
At the end of the Crew Ready Program, we'll sit down with you and review your overall performance.
We'll look at your reliability, growth, ownership, attitude, safety, communication, carpentry development, and ability to work as part of the Bluejacket Builders team.
Participants who successfully complete the program may be offered an opportunity to continue working with Bluejacket Builders and continue developing their careers in residential construction.
Crew Ready isn't a guarantee of permanent employment.
It's an opportunity to learn, work, improve, and prove yourself.
WHERE CAN A CAREER IN THE TRADES TAKE YOU?
The skilled trades aren't a backup plan.
They're a career.
Someone entering the industry today can begin with basic carpentry skills and continue learning:
Residential construction
Demolition
Rough framing
Doors and windows
Cabinet installation
Finish carpentry
Blueprint reading
Construction layout
Remodeling
Jobsite coordination
Crew leadership
Project management
The person learning how to properly read a tape measure today could eventually be the person leading a project and teaching the next generation of carpenters.
Everybody has to start somewhere.
Crew Ready is designed to help create that starting point.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
Crew Ready may be a good fit for you if you:
Are interested in carpentry or residential construction
Enjoy working with your hands
Want to learn practical, real-world skills
Are willing to work hard
Can show up on time and prepared
Are comfortable receiving coaching
Aren't afraid to ask questions
Want to be part of a team
Are interested in building a career rather than simply finding your next job
Experience helps. Attitude matters more.
